Dr. Renan Pimentel Valdivia is a nephrologist with a strong background in internal medicine, hospital-based care, and the management of complex medical conditions. He brings many years of experience caring for patients in both inpatient and intensive care settings, with a thoughtful and comprehensive approach to kidney health.
Dr. Pimentel Valdivia earned his medical degree from Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia in Lima, Peru. He completed his Internal Medicine residency at Saint Barnabas Hospital in the Bronx, New York, and later pursued fellowship training in Nephrology at the University of South Florida, Morsani College of Medicine.
Before specializing in nephrology, Dr. Pimentel Valdivia served as a hospitalist physician, caring for patients with a wide range of acute and chronic medical conditions. His experience as a medical attending in hospital medicine, including work on medical floors and in the intensive care unit, gives him a strong foundation in the care of patients with complex health needs.
His clinical interests include chronic kidney disease, hypertension, acute kidney injury, electrolyte disorders, dialysis-related care, and the kidney complications that can occur alongside diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and other chronic conditions. His academic background also includes research and publications related to diabetic neuropathy and cardiovascular autonomic neuropathy in patients with type 2 diabetes.
Dr. Pimentel Valdivia is ABIM certified and is committed to providing evidence-based, compassionate care. As a bilingual physician, he is dedicated to helping English- and Spanish-speaking patients feel informed, respected, and supported throughout their kidney health journey.
