Dr. Sumit Patel is a board-certified nephrologist and specializes in the management and treatment of a wide variety of kidney diseases including chronic kidney disease, hypertension, diabetic kidney disease, kidney stones, glomerulonephritis, kidney transplant and complex inpatient cases. He also has experience managing patients on both hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis.
He completed his nephrology fellowship at Los Angeles General Medical Center and the Keck Medical Center of the University of Southern California—two leading academic and clinical institutions recognized for their excellence in patient care and research.
He completed his Internal Medicine residency at The Brooklyn Hospital Center, a clinical affiliate of Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, where he received comprehensive training in general and hospital-based medicine. Throughout his career, Dr. Patel has also served as a hospitalist and primary care physician across healthcare systems in California and Georgia, bringing a well-rounded and patient-centered approach to kidney care. His approach blends evidence-based medicine with a compassionate and attentive patient experience.
Dr. Patel has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications covering topics such as peritoneal dialysis-related infections, drug-induced kidney injury, calciphylaxis, and glomerulonephritis. He is an active member of the American Society of Nephrology (ASN) and National Kidney Foundation (NKF).
He currently holds active medical licenses in Florida.
