Clinical Interests
Ira L. Lazar is a clinical nephrologist and an Affiliated Clinical Professor of Medicine, at the Schmidt College of Medicine at Florida Atlantic University. Dr. Lazar has been a faculty member at the college since it’s inception. Before becoming a standalone medical school, he was a clinical assistant professor of medicine at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine at Florida Atlantic University and the course coordinator for the M2 Nephrology course. As a member of University faculty, he authored the problem-based learning sessions and lectured on acid-base, acute kidney injury, chronic kidney disease, bone and mineral metabolism and nephrolithiasis. He currently holds that position at the Schmidt College of Medicine today. Along with members of his group, Florida Kidney Physicians, he is the attending physician for the fourth year medical student elective in nephrology and for the nephrology elective for second and third year residents at the Boca Raton Regional Hospital Campus for the internal medicine residency program. Dr. Lazar is a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine and Nephrology. He did his internal medicine residency training and nephrology fellowship at the State University of New York Downstate Medical Center.
