Deepa Sebastian, APRN, is a nephrology nurse practitioner at Florida Kidney Physicians in Coral Springs, Florida. Following her advanced practice education, she earned national certification through the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. She became a nurse practitioner in 2012 and began working in nephrology, making kidney care the focus of her advanced practice career.
A Background in Intensive Care
Before becoming a nurse practitioner, Deepa developed substantial experience in hospital nursing. Her early career included coronary care at Escorts Heart Institute and Research Center in New Delhi. She subsequently worked at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, where her nursing responsibilities included neurology and neurosurgery in intensive care and inpatient settings.
After moving to the United States in 2003, Deepa continued her career in South Florida. She worked in the surgical intensive care unit at Florida Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale before joining the coronary care and intensive care team at Coral Springs Medical Center in 2006.
Her critical care experience included caring for patients before and after general, orthopedic, and cardiac surgery. She also cared for patients undergoing cardiac catheterization and coronary angioplasty, as well as those requiring specialized cardiac support. These roles involved close monitoring, recognition of changes in patient condition, and communication with the healthcare team.
Deepa’s professional background also includes experience as a charge nurse, clinical preceptor, and patient educator. She has presented clinical topics at hospital grand rounds and participated in committees addressing wound care and critical laboratory verification. These responsibilities added teaching and clinical leadership experience to her direct patient care work.
Nephrology Experience Since 2012
Deepa’s transition to advanced practice allowed her to build on her nursing experience while taking on additional clinical responsibilities. Since 2012, she has focused her work on nephrology, bringing her hospital background and Family Nurse Practitioner preparation to the care of patients with kidney health concerns.
